Chromite is an isometric mineral. Its names is an allusion to its composition, which is FeCr2O4. This mineral usually contains Magnesium and Aluminum. this mineral can accumulate as a mineral layer in ultramafic igneous rocks and in peridotites. They are also common in meteorites. This is the only mineral that chromium appears in. To recognize this in hand sample, It has a metallic luster. It is black in color but its streak is brown. It is equal in strength to a steel nail. It occurs in North America, Greenland, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
