Galena is a lead sulfide that actually shares the same structure as salt. It is light lead gray to dark lead gray in color. It is an aopaque mineral. It is no harder than that of a finger nail. It is found in meadium to low temperature veins, also igneous and sedimentary. Open cavities are common in these environments which lead to a nice crsytal shape. It has a specific gravity of 7.5. Its composition is normally 86.6 % lead and 13.4 % sulfur with some minor impurities.
