Neodymium is all around you!
You really don’t know it, but it is. Nd can be found in many devices around the common household. If you have speakers or headphones odds are they are made from neodymium. Neodymium lamps are incandescent lamps containing neodymium in the glass to filter out yellow light, resulting in a whiter light more like sunlight. It is also used to remove the greenish hue of iron in glass as well. Neodymium salts are used as a colorant for enamel paints.
Size and strength of volcanic eruption can be predicted by scanning for neodymium isotopes. Small and large volcanic eruptions produce lava with different neodymium isotope composition.
Neodymium is never found in nature as the free element. It occurs in carbonate and phosphate ores, like monazite (Ce,La,Th,Nd,Y)PO4 and a carbonate known as bastnäsite (Ce,La,Th,Nd,Y)(CO3)F.
